Price Claims or Savings Claims

Q: I was sent an email that says my ad was declined for Price Claims or Savings Claim in Ad. The email says all price claims or savings claims made in an ad must be clearly and accurately substantiated on the landing page above the fold. How can I fix this?

A: Make sure that the price for a product or service in your ad is visible on the landing page without scrolling. You could also remove the price from your ad.

If the ad includes how much users can save - 30% off - make sure that a 30% savings is visible on the landing page without scrolling. Or remove the savings claim from your ad.

Q: I was sent an email that says my ad was declined for Free Offer in Ad. The email says free offers that include recurring charges must be clearly and conspicuously disclosed to users before they make their purchase. How could I fix this?

A: Don’t make users search for details on a free offer. Don’t make users click on a Terms and Conditions link for details on a free offer. Don’t make users squint or strain to read the details of a free offer because the text is visually unclear. In short, make it easy for user to understand your program.

Policy: Pricing and Price Claims

Due to the dynamic nature of native advertising, certain elements of the ad may not appear (including but not limited to, the image or the description) and ad text may be shortened based on space, device or other requirements. Advertisers are responsible for confirming that any required text is present on the ad’s landing page.

  • An offer made in an ad or on a landing page must be genuine, accurate, clear to users, without material omission and can’t misrepresent the reality of the offer. Bait advertising is not allowed.

  • All price claims made in an ad must be clearly and accurately substantiated on the landing page.

  • Ads/landing pages must only state that a product or service is “free”, “complimentary” or similar when the product or service is in fact free and the user will not incur any incidental cost in redeeming it. A product or service should not be advertised as “free” or “complimentary” if this statement is contradicted in fine print elsewhere in the ad/landing page.

  • Ads or landing pages that contain “free”, “complimentary” or synonymous offers must clearly and conspicuously disclose the pertinent terms and conditions of the offer to users before they make their purchase.

  • Free offers that include the following must be obviously disclosed to user before purchase: - Recurring charges (subscriptions, contracts, negative option pricing, or other continuing costs) or - Additional costs to receive the promoted product or service (fees, bundled products, deposit requirements or other one-time charges)

  • A subscription requirement must always be disclosed on the ad unit within the ad text. Placing notification on the landing page is not sufficient.

UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates:

  • Prices stated in ads must be tax inclusive. Using text “£4 plus tax” is not compliant. The stated numeric cost must include calculated tax.

  • An ad which states a price should include the following key disclosures on the landing page: (i) the main characteristics of the product, (ii) the identity of the advertiser, (iii) the geographical address of the advertiser, (iv) any additional freight, delivery or postal charges, any unusual arrangements as to payment, delivery, performance of the contract or complaint handling, details of any right of withdrawal or cancellation when possible.
